Mysterious donor to pro-Romney PAC identified (AP)

FILE - In this July 27, 2011, file photo, Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks in Pataskala, Ohio. The tea party is here to stay. The two-year-old phenomenon’s muscular role in the debt-ceiling crisis made that clear. Now the GOP establishment wonders if the grassroots movement will power Republicans to new victories in 2012, or dash them on the rocks of unbending ideology. One thing is obvious. The tea party continues to reshape the Republican Party. Once-moderate lawmakers are shifting sharply right, fearing primary challenges more than Democratic opponents. Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., recently tweeted "Obama proves once gain he is the most effective food stamp president. Record levels were reached in May: http://t.co/LQiPlAEa." Not to be outdone, Mitt Romney, R-Mass., quipped via Twitter, "When you see what this president has done to the economy in 3 years, you know why America doesn't want to find out what he can do in 8."

Work, Family, and Managerial Attitudes and Practices in the European Workplace: Comparing Dutch, British, and Slovenian Financial Sector Managers

Managers are key actors shaping employees’ capabilities to utilize work–life policies. However, most research on managers’ implementation of these policies has been conducted in liberal welfare states and ignores the impact of institutional context. In this study, we situate managers within specific workplace and national layers of context. We investigated how managers in financial organizations in the Netherlands, UK, and Slovenia talk about the utilization of work–life policies. Managers’ discourses stressed disruption and dependency considerations in these case studies, as in the US research. However, a further management discourse of the moral case or right thing to do also emerged. The lack of resources for replacing staff on leave creates disruption and reduces managers capability to support the use of work–life policies, even when they are statutory or if managers are inclined be supportive (dependency or moral argument). This is likely to impact on parents' capabilities.

Open Government to Solve Problems: Meet Champions of the Open Innovation Movement

Ed. Note: Champions of Change is a weekly initiative to highlight Americans who are making an impact in their communities and helping our country rise to meet the many challenges of the 21st century.

Leigh Budlong is an accidental technologist. After years of experience struggling to make sense of the myriad of zoning rules associated with commercial real estate, often with real implications for entrepreneurs looking to start a new business, she decided to solve the problem by launching a new service. Her award-winning ZonabilitySF app is fueled by open government data, a valuable (public) resource at the center of a movement directed by the President on his first full day in office and replicated by dozens of Governors, Mayors, and even foreign leaders to make it more accessible.

Waldo Jaquith used his free time to facilitate a more open government. Despite long hours at his day job, Waldo found the time to launch Richmond Sunlight, a volunteer-run site that keeps track of the Virginia legislature, including manually uploading hundreds of hours of CSPAN-inspired video of floor speeches, tagging relevant information on bills and committee votes, and inviting the public to comment on any particular legislation. He solicits feedback, introduces new products and services, and encourages others to participate. In short, he embodies the spirit that drives the Internet economy – “rough consensus, running code.”

Ohio Senate Bill 148 Will Streamline the Election Process (ContributorNetwork)

ContributorNetwork - Ohio Senate Bill 148 overhauling the state's election law passed the Senate on Tuesday along party lines. The measures contained in the bill will streamline the voting process to offer consistency throughout the state. SB 148 will not only improve the voting system but will likely make the process more fiscally responsible. Although some Democrats supported specific measures in the bill, the overall legislation as "racist" and discriminatory. The knee-jerk partisan inspired rhetoric demonstrates why the needs of taxpayers are placed behind party loyalty by some members of the Democratic Party.
