Boeing seen getting C-17 pact (Investor's Business Daily)

Investor's Business Daily - India's Cabinet panel OK'd a $4.1 bil buy of 10 C-17 military transport planes made by Boeing , sources told Reuters. The deal, with an option for 6 more C-17s, is seen as a bid to smooth over relations with the U.S. after India rejected Boeing and Lockheed Martin bids for an $11 bil fighter contract in April and put European contractors on a short list. Boeing shares fell 0.3%.

A presidential candidacy or a career-booster for Rick Santorum?

Rick Santorum left the Senate after a brutal, double-digit loss in 2006. In the intervening years he?s been out of the public eye. He now wants to be president of the United States. Is he serious?

It depends what we imagine he is serious about. No, I don?t think he imagines he can win the presidency. There is no indigenous ?Elect Santorum? constituency and beyond maybe Iowa it?s hard to conceive of him placing in, let alone winning, any other primary.

Liberal pundits err when they assume a figure such as Santorum is there to propound a governing agenda. His is the classic ?resume-builder? candidacy, or specifically in the case of Santorum, a ?last gasp at relevancy? race. A good chunk of the conservative electorate doesn?t know who he is and it?s unclear who, if anyone, would give money to support his run. He?s not going to out-conservative Tea Party favorite Bachmann, nor does he seem to have a defining message or persona other than standard-issue hard-right conservatism. At least Herman Cain has the advantage of being a fresh face with a private-sector record of accomplishment.

?Thank You?: Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden to Our Service Members in Naples, Italy

Yesterday, my husband and I were honored to visit with some of our service members and their families at the Navy’s Capodichino base in Naples, Italy. I was proud to be there as Second Lady of the United States, but I was even more proud to be there as a military mom.

We were there for a simple reason, and that was to say thank you.

On a daily basis, each of these men and women show us what words like service, strength, and sacrifice really mean. Our military families serving in the United States and around the world are truly inspiring, and they need to know that everyone at home appreciates all that they do for our nation.

The First Lady and I are working hard through our Joining Forces initiative to make sure that every American understands the sacrifices that our service members and their families are making for the security of this nation. And we’re encouraging all Americans to find ways to give back in any way they can.
